Portugalia – Madera – Funchal 21.09.2016 3 995 km
Lądujemy 35 minut po czasie. W dali widać wschodni cypel i domki na górach – super! mój plecak nie wyjechał z innymi bagażami, tylko czeka dalej, na ziemi, z kilkoma innymi…
Kolesia od auta nie ma, rozglądamy się i szukamy, w końcu się znalazł, siedział na boku i załatwiał innych klientów, parę z Polski.
Załatwiamy formalności, koleś nie każe nawet patrzeć na uszkodzenia i rysy i wgniecenia – a takowe są – bo mamy full insurance. Po drodze na parking wypytuję go o istotne rzeczy, o parkingi, próbuję załapać trochę portugalskiego, bo okazuje się, że z hiszpańskim ma niewiele wspólnego.
We land 35 minutes later. I can see the eastern cape of Madeira and houses on hills – great!
I can’t find my backack among all the baggages – it’s waiting farther on the ground, with a few other ones…
A man with the car should be waiting for us but we can’t see him. We’re looking for him and looking, finally he’s there, sitting and talking to other customers – a couple from Poland.
We take care of the paper and money work and walk to the parking place. There are some scratches on the car but the man says we don’t have to mention about them – we’ve got full insurance.
While walking I ask him about some important things – about parking (more about it in summary). I try to learn some portugese – it hasn’t a lot to do with spanish.
I jedziemy do Funchal. Już widać, że auto nie ma zbyt mocnego silnika, później po górach najczęściej jeździłam na dwójce, a piątkę wrzucałam tylko na autostradzie.
Nawigacja (Sygic) śmiga, tylko w tunelach, których jest tu mnóstwo, się czasem gubi.
Zjeżdżamy z autostrady no i mamy problem, bo droga na górę zamknięta. Zonk totalny, bo uliczek tu tyle, że ręcznie ciężko się połapać na pierwszy raz, a nawigacja uparcie pokazuje tą jedną jedyną drogę. Więc krążymy dość mocno, hamulce piszczą, co bardzo mi się nie podoba (i tak piszczały już do końca).
And we drive to Funchal. Now we can see that the engine isn’t too powerful. Later I mostly used second gear in the mountains, the fifth one only at highways.
The navigation (Sygic) works fine most of the time, only in tunnels (there are a lot of them here) it looses signal sometimes.
We leave the highway and we’ve got a problem – the road is closed. The problem is big – there are so many streets that it’s hard to get another way by map as we’re the first time here. The navigation shows only this road as the only one. So we drive around for a long time, the breaks squeal – I don’t like that – it was the same untill the end.
Na mapie widać, że inaczej też da się dojechać, więc zjeżdżamy na dół do centrum i tu już pokazuje nam inną drogę i jakoś docieramy na górę, prawie do Monte, bo tam mamy apartament. Miejscami trzeba wjeżdżać ostro pod górę, ostrymi zakrętami, więc szczęśliwa jestem, gdy zajeżdżamy na miejsce.
Parkowanie też jest tu specyficzne, jak nie ma gdzie, to auto zostawia się z boku na ulicy (nie ma chodników ani pobocza), a inni muszą się martwić jak przejechać. No ale jak się potem okazało, dają radę i my też dajemy 😉 Więcej o jeżdżeniu po Maderze podsumowaniu (wkrótce).
We can see on the map, that there’s another way so we drive down to the center. Here the navigation decides to show us the other way and we finally get up there – almost to Monte where we have the apartament. The are moments when I must drive very steep up the mountain, with very windy turns so I’m happy when we’re at the right place.
Parking the car is also specific here – if there’s not enough place, they just leave cars on a side of a road (no sidewalks nor shoulders), and it’s the others’ problem to cover. Well, it turnes out that it’s possible, for us also 😉 More about driving at Madeira in summary (soon).
Domek jest przy głównej ulicy, apartament super, wyszło na to, że każda z nas może mieć swój pokój. Trochę dokuczał nam hałas, ale widok z tarasu na całe Funchal w dole z nawiązką ten drobny mankament neutralizował 🙂
Przystanek autobusu mamy pod domkiem, market jest daleko, więc trzeba autem, ale niedaleko jest mały sklepik i bar, w którym są bułki i jakieś podstawowe rzeczy do jedzenia, więc kolację już mamy. Miejscowi panowie sobie w takich barach spędzają wieczory.
My chciałyśmy iść jeszcze do miasta, ale przez to spóźnienie i krążenie jest już późno, a i ja mam na razie dość jeżdżenia, więc ustalamy plan na jutro i spać.
The house is by the main road, the apartament is great, it turnes out that every one of us can have her own room. It was a little bit noisy but the view from the terrace over the whole Funchal down there completely makes that small problem neutral 🙂
The bus stop is just near the door, the supermarket is far, but near here there’s a small shop and a bar. There are some main food products, so we’ve got the supper already. Local men spend the evenings in such bars.
Our plan was to go to the city in the evening but it’s late now and I’ve got enough of driving for today, so we make a plan for tomorrow and go to sleep.
